Prosecutor upholds decision not to probe alleged sexual assault at Rammstein concert in Vilnius

The Lithuanian police’s decision not to open an investigation into sexual assault allegations against Rammstein’s Till Lindemann during the concert in Vilnius in May was lawful and justified, the Prosecutor General’s Office said on Friday.

“The decision not to open a pre-trial investigation was taken […] in the absence of elements of a crime or a misdemeanour,” it said in a press release.

The scandal erupted after an Irish fan alleged on social media that Rammstein’s lead singer Lindemann intoxicated her and proposed sex backstage when she attended the band’s concert in Vilnius on May 22.

The Lithuanian police questioned the young Irish woman about alleged drug-related crimes and coercion during Rammstein’s parties in Vilnius.

After the Irish fan’s account went viral, other concertgoers shared their stories on social media, claiming that the German metal band has set up an organised system of sexual harassment and rape by inviting selected young women to their parties.

Rammstein has denied the allegations.

The Prosecutor’s Office said in Friday’s statement that “there is no objective factual evidence to substantiate the allegations that the applicant was subjected to any physical or psychological violence, any coercive acts of a sexual nature, was forced to use narcotic substances, or was robbed”.

However, the German media previously announced that the Berlin public prosecutor’s office would launch an investigation into the allegations.
