Hundreds attend funeral of Lithuania’s former first lady Alma Adamkienė

Hundreds of people have gathered at Petrašiūnai Cemetery in Kaunas where Alma Adamkienė, former first lady and wife of President Valdas Adamkus, is being laid to rest on Tuesday. 

Mourners followed the funeral procession, which included Adamkus, President Gitanas Nausėda, and his wife Diana Nausėdienė, to the grave site, where the burial ceremony began at 16:00.

Before the ceremony, many people and politicians paid their last respects to Alma Adamkienė at the Presidential Palace in Vilnius.

Adamkienė died at the age of 96 in Vilnius on Sunday after a serious illness.

Adamkus served two terms as Lithuanian president between 1998 and 2009.
