Three sculptures were on Thursday installed on the roof of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Vilnius, returning the building to its original look.

Commissioned by the Culture Infrastructure Centre, the restoration of the building started in 2018 and will continue next year.

The church was designed by architecture professor Karol Podczaszynski (Karolis Podcasinskis) and constructed in 1830-1835. The statues were installed on the roof in 1837.

The statues depict two kneeling angels and a figure of a virgin with a cross and a chalice, symbolising faith

They were removed in 1949 as the building was unused and the church was later redesigned for a cinema, with entrances with staircases added to the sides of its facade.

In 1990, the building was returned to church community. It has largely stood unused since then.

Correction: an earlier version of the story incorrectly stated that one of the statues was of Virgin Mary.
