Events marking the 508th anniversary of the Battle of Orsha against Moscow will be held in Vilnius on Thursday.
A march will take place in old-town Vilnius and the historical flag will be raised on the building of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
In addition, the Town Hall of Vilnius will host an international conference to discuss the challenges posed to the region by Moscow’s aggression.
By looking at the past and at the current war in Ukraine, participants of the international conference “Together in Fight Against Moscow’s Imperialism: Then and Now” will discuss preparations for war and share experiences that may help stop Russia’s aggression in the future, the Defense Ministry said in a press release.
Oleksiy Arestovich, adviser to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, will also participate in the conference during his visit to Lithuania.
The Battle of Orsha took place on September 8, 1514, between the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Grand Duchy of Moscow.
The battle was won by the forces of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland under the command of Konstanty Ostrogski, a Grand Hetman of Lithuania.
Historians describe it as one of the greatest military victories in Lithuania's history.
