Kvedaravičius, 45, was killed in Ukraine, near the besieged city of Mariupol, on Saturday, during an attack by Russian troops.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said in early March that it had opened a pre-trial investigation into crimes against humanity and war crimes following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Lithuanian police has said that Ukrainians or other people can report war crimes in Ukraine at report.epolicija.lt.

Kvedaravičius debuted as a filmmaker in 2011 with Barzakh, an award-winning documentary about war-torn Chechnya. In 2016, his documentary Mariupol was selected for the Berlin Film Festival.

In 2019, his first fiction film Parthenon was selected for the Venice Film Festival’s Critics’ Week competition.
