Lithuania is sending up to 64 additional troops per day to the border with Belarus amid an increase in irregular migration, the country’s Interior Ministry said on Monday.

"It has been agreed that additional military forces will come in to assist border guards," Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė said in a statement.

"We have always said that the Lithuanian military has provided and will continue providing assistance in the context of the ongoing hybrid aggression,” Defence Minister Arvydas Anušauskas said.

“Frontex has also extended its assistance and new opportunities to use allied helicopters are arising as we are not alone facing this crisis," he added.

The Lithuanian Armed Forces will extend its assistance until December 31.
