Lithuania to open embassy in South Korea

BNS 2021.06.07 13:51

The Lithuanian government has decided to establish the country's embassy in South Korea on September 1.

"Lithuania's key economic interest is to boost exports of Lithuanian goods and services, especially those created with higher added value, and also to attract investment, including into infrastructure projects of strategic importance," Foreign Vice Minister Mantas Adomėnas said during a government meeting on Monday.

Lithuania’s officials have previously said the country needs to diversify trade in East Asia to reduce dependence on China. Lithuania is also planning to open an embassy in Singapore.

According to Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, Lithuania's interests in Asia are still poorly represented.

"We are seeking to expand and diversify markets, open up new paths for our businesses and look for opportunities in countries we have not had deeper relations with so far," he said in a statement released by the Foreign Ministry.
