Vilnius University and the University of Latvia have awarded their first joint master's degree, marking the completion of a new cross-border Baltic studies programme.
The diploma went to Baltic linguistics graduate Dovilė Gavelytė, who defended her thesis on manipulative and causative constructions across Lithuanian, Latvian, Livonian and Estonian.
The joint degree, launched this year, combines Vilnius University's master's programme in Baltic linguistics with the University of Latvia's programme in Latvian language, literature and culture.
Students spend their first year at their home university before moving to the partner country for their third semester, where they deepen their knowledge of Baltic studies and work on their thesis. Applicants must have at least B1-level proficiency in both Lithuanian and Latvian.
