Lithuania has recorded 1,386 new coronavirus infections and another 11 deaths from Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, the country's statistics office said on Monday.

Thirty-nine people have recovered over the past 24 hours.

A total of 76,036 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Lithuania so far. The country currently has 44,625 active cases and 30,449 recoveries.

The coronavirus death toll has reached 637, and 326 infected people have died of other causes.

Lithuania tested 4,582 people for the coronavirus over the past 24 hours.

Infections during Black Friday sales

Some of the newly reported infections can be directly traced to big sales at the end of November, said Justina Petravičienė of the National Public Health Centre (NVSC).

“We are already seeing the results of the ‘black sales’ weekend [November 27–29], one particular case was in a shop where the salesperson and a customer got infected one from the other. It happened during the sales weekend,” Petravičienė told LRT RADIO.

A number of retailers were advertising big sales over the last weekend of November, inspired by the Black Friday sales in the US.
