A day before the nationwide quarantine came into effect in Lithuania on November 7, people splashed out in bars, restaurants and cafes, according to data by Revolut bank.
In the company’s press release, Revolut said the expenditures on November 6 were 45 percent higher than on Friday the week before.
Revolut said it based its statistics on some of the data from its 300,000 clients, without specifying the exact methodology.
According to the bank, expenditures in bars and restaurants had already dropped on October 26, when the first restrictions for catering establishments were introduced by the government amid the rising number of new coronavirus cases.
During the first nationwide quarantine in spring, most businesses were forced to shut. This time, however, shops are allowed to remain open, while the new restrictions have mostly targeted public gathering places, such as gyms, theatres, bars and restaurants.
