Ingrida Šimonytė, the candidate for Lithuania's prime minister from the Homeland Union, said that the relations between the United States and the European Union "will probably be less bitter" after Joe Biden was elected America's president.
"Whatever the administration would be, be that of President Donald Trump or President Biden, we need to have as close ties with that administration as possible as America's presence in Europe is very important for our security,” Šimonyė told reporters on Monday.

“We can cautiously expect that the US–EU relations will be a bit less bitter than they have been over the past four years, but we still need to see that," she added.
Asked to comment on the results of the US presidential election, Šimonytė said that "Lithuania has no luxury to evaluate the choice of the American people in some special way”.
“That's the choice of the people of the United States of America and we will respect the choice whatever that is," she added.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis congratulated Biden on his election on Saturday night.
Donald Trump has so far refused to concede defeat.
