Jevgenijus Šuklinas, Lithuanian Olympic medalist, tested positive for illegal substances in both lab tests.
He confirmed to Delfi, a Lithuanian news portal, that his second test undertaken by the World’s Anti-doping Agency (WADA) was also positive.
Šuklinas won silver medal in singles’ 200 meter canoeing at the London Olympic Games in 2012.
In February 2019, he received a letter alleging doping use during the games.
In the worst-case scenario, he will be forced to hand back his silver medal to the bronze winner, Ivan Shtil. The third place will then go to Sete Benavides from Spain.
WADA has been doing retrospective doping tests since 2004. Athletes' urine samples are kept for ten years.
