Lithuanian PM congratulates Armenia’s Pashinyan on election win

Lithuania's Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė has congratulated Armenian counterpart Nikol Pashinyan on his election victory, expressing hope that the result would bring Armenia closer to the European Union.

"The people of Armenia have once again spoken in favour of democratic values, regional stability and a European future," Ruginienė wrote on X.

Pashinyan's ruling Civil Contract party won 49.8% of the vote, well clear of the Strong Armenia alliance, backed by Russian-Armenian billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, which took 23.3%.

Following the result, Pashinyan said he would maintain a pro-European course while managing relations with Russia, which has grown increasingly uneasy about Armenia's westward drift.
