A Vilnius court on Thursday fined former Chief of Defence Valdemaras Rupšys 20,000 euros for fraud, abuse of office and document forgery.
Rupšys was on trial for using military funds to pay for two dental implants, which cost nearly 4,000 euros. Rupšys previously said that he sustained a dental injury in July 2022 while visiting Lithuanian troops in Germany.
The incident was officially recognised as service-related, leading to the treatment being covered by national defence funds.
As part of the sentencing, he was also banned from working in the civil service for five years.
Rupšys served as Chief of Defence from 2019 to 2024. He did not attend the ruling.
A 15,000 euro fine was also imposed against military medic Šarūnas Ratkus, who was charged with document forgery and aiding Rupšys in the fraud.
Ratkus said he would appeal against the ruling.
