The foreign ministers of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia on Friday rejected Russian allegations that the Baltic states provided their airspace for Ukrainian strikes against Russia.
"We, the foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, categorically reject Russia's disinformation campaign against our countries as completely unfounded. The Baltic states have never allowed their territory or airspace to be used for drone attacks against targets in Russia," the joint statement read.
Several Ukrainian drones crashed in the Baltic states last month after veering off course amid attacks on Russia.
Although the Baltic states officially denied these allegations to the Russian chargés d’affaires in Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, Russia has continued to spread falsehoods despite the official response, the ministers said.
The Lithuanian military assessed that by spreading disinformation, Russia aims to increase emotional pressure and intimidate Lithuania by suggesting it is prepared to down targets over Baltic airspace or strike their territories.
