Lithuania’s armed forces have launched their Storm Strike 2025 military exercise in the country’s west, with increased movement of troops and equipment expected across Klaipėda city and district, the army said on Monday.

The drills are part of Lithuania’s largest training operation this year, Thunder Strike 2025, designed to test national defence plans, the country’s transition from peace to wartime readiness, and the coordination of military command posts with local authorities.

Storm Strike involves professional service members from the Lithuanian Navy as well as active reservists called up to refresh their operational skills.

According to the army, activities will take place across Klaipėda city and district, Gargždai, Palanga, and Kretinga districts, the Kairiai training area, the Klaipėda State Seaport and its waters, the Curonian Lagoon, the Curonian Spit, and along the entire Lithuanian Baltic coast.

The main phase will be conducted in the Melnragė I area, featuring a landing operation from the Baltic Sea followed by manoeuvres on land.

Residents are warned that during the exercise, military vehicles will be on the roads, while imitation ammunition, pyrotechnics, and explosions may be heard both on land and at sea.
