Passengers at Vilnius, Kaunas airports to keep liquids, electronic gadgets in hand luggage

BNS 2025.08.21 15:19

Passengers travelling through Vilnius and Kaunas airports will no longer be required to remove liquids or electronic devices from their hand luggage during security checks, starting Friday, August 22.

Lithuania’s two largest airports will be the first in the Baltic region to implement the new rules, Lithuanian Airports (LTOU), the state airport operator, confirmed in a statement on Thursday.

The change has been made possible thanks to new technological solutions, investment in upgraded security scanners, and a European Commission decision adopted in late July, which allows passengers to carry liquids in containers of up to two litres in their hand luggage.

Until now, liquids had to be carried in containers no larger than 100 ml, placed in a one-litre plastic bag, and removed during screening.

The restriction will, however, remain in place at Palanga Airport and at most other European airports, particularly smaller ones.
