PM Paluckas tops wealth list among Lithuanian leaders

Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas and his family are the wealthiest among Lithuania’s top political leaders, according to 2024 asset declarations published Tuesday by the State Tax Inspectorate (VMI).

Paluckas and his spouse reported total assets worth approximately €2.3 million and liabilities of €37,000. The majority of their wealth – around €1.7 million – is held in company shares.

Compared to 2023, the couple’s net worth grew by about €50,000. Last year, they declared assets totalling €2.25 million.

President Gitanas Nausėda and First Lady Diana Nausėdienė reported assets worth approximately €1.25 million and debts totalling nearly €10,000. Most of their wealth – nearly €700,000 – is in real estate holdings. The first couple’s assets increased significantly from 2023, when they declared €766,000 in assets.

Speaker of the Seimas Saulius Skvernelis and his spouse declared assets valued at €443,000 – a slight increase from €428,000 the previous year. Their wealth primarily consists of real estate and cash holdings. The couple also reported debts totalling €68,000.

The annual declarations provide a glimpse into the financial standing of Lithuania’s political elite and are published as part of transparency requirements for public officials.

Culture minister at the top

Culture Minister Šarūnas Birutis and his family are the wealthiest among members of Lithuania’s cabinet, while Environment Minister Povilas Poderskis declared the lowest net worth, according to 2024 asset declarations by the VMI.

The Birutis family reported assets totalling €2.1 million, most of which is in real estate.

Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius ranked second, with family assets worth €662,000, also largely tied to real estate holdings.

Agriculture Minister Ignas Hofmanas and his spouse followed closely, declaring €561,000 in assets. Nearly €300,000 of that comes from land owned by the minister.

Justice Minister Rimantas Mockus and his family also reported assets exceeding €500,000, mainly in land and real estate.

Several ministers declared assets ranging from €100,000 to several hundred thousand euros, including Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas; Social Security and Labour Minister Inga Ruginienė; Education, Science and Sports Minister Raminta Popovienė; Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys; Health Minister Marija Jakubauskienė; and Economy and Innovation Minister Lukas Savickas.

Interior Minister Vladislavas Kondratovičius declared €138,000 in assets.

At the bottom of the list is Environment Minister Povilas Poderskis, who reported just €2,000 in cash holdings and no other assets. Poderskis married Džiaugsmo klinika head Justina Aleksaitė in June.
