Nida’s nudist beach on the Lithuanian Curonian Spit has once again earned international recognition, placing second in CNN’s list of the world’s 25 best nudist beaches, the Neringa Municipality announced Friday.
In its ranking, the US-based media outlet praised the beach’s unique natural beauty, describing it as one of the most scenic spots in Europe to shed clothes. “The chilly Baltic Sea may not seem like the most obvious place to skinny dip,” CNN noted, “but this gorgeous strand on the long, sandy Curonian Spit offers one of Europe’s most picturesque spots to take it all off.”
The article highlights the beach’s dramatic natural landscape, characterised by wildflower-covered dunes – some of the tallest in Europe – and a coastal forest that frames the shoreline. It also notes the area’s cultural significance, referencing Nida’s 19th-century roots as an artists’ colony that once drew leading painters, poets and writers of the time.

This year, the top spot on CNN’s list went to a nudist beach in Uruguay. Other featured locations included beaches in Thailand, Sweden, New Zealand, Croatia, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Israel and neighbouring Latvia.
According to the municipality, the Nida nudist beach is not the only one catering to this visitor group along the Curonian Spit. Additional naturist beaches, similarly scenic and serene, can be found near Preila, Pervalka and Juodkrantė.
The recognition is expected to boost visibility for Nida as a unique travel destination and highlight Lithuania’s coastal treasures on the global tourism map.
