Vytautas Landsbergis, Lithuania’s first post-independence leader, was hospitalised on Thursday.
The news was confirmed to LRT.lt by Landsbergis’ son Vytautas V. Landsbergis.
According to him, 92-year-old Landsbergis visited the Vilnius Book Fair on Thursday and later was admitted to hospital after feeling unwell.
Landsbergis is currently undergoing treatment at the Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos.
“Professor Vytautas Landsbergis was brought to Santaros Klinikos due to his impaired health. His condition is being assessed, and tests are being carried out. Professor Landsbergis remains in the hospital for examination and observation,” representatives of the medical institution said in a written comment to Elta news agency.
On Thursday, Lansbergis attended the presentation of the book The Creation of the Word by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, which he has compiled, at the Vilnius Book Fair.
