Train services between Vilnius and Daugavpils may resume next spring following the completion of railway repairs in Latvia, according to Lithuania’s state-owned railway company LTG.

LTG Link, the company’s passenger arm, said on Thursday it had carried out a test run lasting about 2.5 hours. The service would allow residents of the Lithuanian town of Visaginas to make more frequent visits to Latvia’s Daugavpils. The possibility of bringing back the service is being discussed with the Visaginas authorities.

LTG Link currently carries passengers to Turmantas on the Latvian border and is looking into extending the route about 15 km to Daugavpils.

LTG Link operates daily services to Riga since last December. It used to take passengers to Daugavpils, Latvia’s second largest city, in 2018.
