Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the United States presidential election.
“Congratulations to Donald Trump on winning the US Presidential election! The US is a key strategic ally of Lithuania. We both take our security seriously. Lithuania currently allocates 3.5% of GDP to defense and will continue increasing our investment,” Nausėda wrote on X.
“Transatlantic unity is crucial!” he added.
The latest figures show that Lithuania has actually allocated about 3.2 percent of GDP to defence this year, including borrowed funds. Next year, defence spending is planned at around 2.5 billion euros or 3.03 percent of GDP.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis also congratulated Trump on his “historic re-election”.
“Congratulations to President Donald Trump on his historic re-election in the United States. Lithuania is a committed ally everywhere the fight for freedom is fought. Our nations' long and continuing friendship will overcome all our enemies,” he wrote on X on Wednesday.

Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Viktorija Čmilyte-Nielsen has also congratulated Trump on his victory in the US presidential election.
“Congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump. Lithuania deeply values our strong alliance with the United States. We look forward to continuing our close cooperation and partnership,” she posted on X.
Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the US presidential election and will return to the White House as the 47th president of the country.
