On Wednesday, the government approved the roadmap for Lithuania’s engagement in Ukraine’s reconstruction and recovery for the next three years.
It includes support for the construction of schools and shelters in Ukraine, the acquisition of demining equipment, and assistance in Ukraine’s Euro-integration process.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the aim of the guidelines for 2024–2027 is to ensure a consistent engagement of Lithuanian institutions, businesses, and non-governmental organisations in the reconstruction and recovery of Ukraine, identifying priority areas and the planned ways of action.
“The guidelines will be taken into account in the planning of state budget allocations and decisions on the financing of specific initiatives,” the ministry said.
The projects outlined in the guidelines will be funded both from the Lithuanian budget and in cooperation with other countries and international organisations.
“Why do we need this? To finally agree that we have certain directions where we are investing in Ukraine,” said Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.
Among the projects included in the roadmap are the preparation of technical designs for new schools, the construction of shelters adjacent to educational establishments, and a 15-million-euro programme to renovate rehabilitation centres in Lviv, Dnipro, and Zhytomyr.
It also includes support for the acquisition of demining equipment, as well as the Create Ukraine programme to encourage the return of young Ukrainian professionals currently living abroad and facilitate their successful integration into the Ukrainian public sector.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the total support of Lithuanian institutions to Ukraine since the large-scale Russian invasion will reach 1.45 billion euros by the end of this year.
