A Lithuanian tourist has been reported missing in Valbona Valley in the Albanian Alps.

According to local media, he is believed to have gone in the direction of Theth and has not returned to the guesthouse where he was staying since September 6.

Family members appealed for help after not hearing from him for several days.

Local media report that Albanian and Kosovo search and rescue teams launched a search mission for the Lithuanian on Sunday. They are concentrating on the road from Valbona towards Theth. The route is considered dangerous, and it is advised to follow it with a guide.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the first report on the disappearance of a Lithuanian citizen was received by the Lithuania Embassy in Greece on Sunday.

“Since the first reports, the Lithuanian Embassy in Greece has been in active contact with the Albanian authorities, who have confirmed the search for the Lithuanian citizen in mountainous areas,” the ministry told LRT.lt.

“The search is in an active state and has been extended to the territories of Kosovo and Montenegro. Respecting the privacy of the missing person and his relatives, we cannot provide any further information at this time,” it added.
