Lithuania mulls sending transport attaché to Ukraine

BNS 2024.07.10 09:49

The Lithuanian Transport Ministry proposes to set up the post of transport attaché at the country’s Embassy in Ukraine.

If the government gives the go-ahead, the attaché will start work in Kyiv in October.

The ministry says the new portfolio is proposed to diversify Lithuania’s services exports after the loss of the previously important Russian and Belarusian markets, to help transport and logistics companies find new suppliers and import destinations for raw materials, and to create alternative supply chains bypassing Russia and Belarus.

The new attaché would help develop a transport corridor from the Baltic to the Black and Aegean Seas via Ukraine.

Lithuania now has five transport attachés: one in Poland and Kazakhstan each, and three at Vilnius’ Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels.
