Former psychologist Tomas Kelpša has been found guilty of sexual crimes against asylum seekers while he was working at a refugee centre.
The sentence was handed by the District Court of Vilnius Region on Wednesday.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison for sexual abuse and fined 5,000 euros for the acquisition and distribution of pornographic material. He was also banned from working as a psychologist for four years.
Kelpša was also ordered to pay 10,000 euros in non-pecuniary damages to each of his victims.
The court heard that Kelpša took advantage of his victims’ vulnerability and forced four asylum seekers to have sex with him.
While working at a refugee centre, he threatened the victims that they would not be granted asylum and would be deported if they refused to do what he said.
The verdicts can still be appealed to Vilnius Regional Court within twenty days.
