A small plane made an emergency landing at Riga Airport on Wednesday after encountering technical problems. It landed in a field near the runway, but operations at Riga International Airport were suspended, Latvian public broadcaster LSM reports.

According to the Latvian Civil Aviation Agency, the pilot reported technical problems and his aircraft disappeared from radar about 4 km from the airport, before landing in a field later.

“One person is known to have been injured, but the pilot did not suffer any injuries. Authorities are working at the scene,” the agency said.

It also said that the pilot was a Latvian national, while the injured passenger was Lithuanian. The latter was taken to a hospital.

The incident has led to temporary suspension of runway operations at Riga Airport.

The airport recommends that passengers whose flight schedules will be disrupted contact the airlines.

LSM reports that the aircraft involved in the incident is registered in Latvia.
