Over 2.3 million people in Lithuania are eligible to vote in the upcoming European Parliament election.
The Central Electoral Commission (VRK) confirmed on Monday that the final list of voters includes 2,386,422 people, which is down by 4.2 percent, or 104,000 voters, from the last EP election five years ago.
Lithuanian citizens as well as EU citizens living in the country can vote in the EP election. The latter must have declared their place of residence in Lithuania and have a residence permit.
The VRK data shows there are about 8,000 such people, who have to be removed from the electoral rolls of their country in order to vote in Lithuania.
The same procedure applies to Lithuanian citizens who wish to vote for the candidates of their country of residence rather than for Lithuanian candidates.
In total, 1,688 Lithuanian citizens were removed from the Lithuanian electoral roll because they expressed their wish to vote in other countries.
Early voting in the EP election will start on Tuesday and voting at polling stations will take place on Sunday.
Lithuania will elect 11 MEPs.
