On Saturday, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda will meet with Defence Minister Arvydas Anušauskas. The minister is planning to resign, the LRT.lt sources have confirmed. However, the reason for his resignation is not yet known.
Anušauskas himself requested a meeting with Nausėda, Ridas Jasiulionis, the president’s spokesperson, told the ELTA news agency.
According to unconfirmed reports, Anušauskas met with Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonyte on Friday. Approached by journalists, he refused to comment.
Later, the Government’s Press Service confirmed that Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė received Anušauskas’ resignation letter on Friday.
It is stated that the prime minister will comment on her decision on Monday, March 18.
