The traditional St Casimir Fair, or Kaziuko mugė, is kicking off in Vilnius on Friday.

The annual folk arts and crafts fair, which pays tribute to the country’s patron St Casimir, dates back to the 17th century. Nowadays, the 3-day event attracts artists, craftsmen, and traders from across the region.

Traditionally, the Kaziukas Fair will begin on Friday at 14:00 with a procession of the fair participants, led by St Casimir, from Independence Square to Cathedral Square. At 15:00, an opening concert will take place in Cathedral Square.

According to Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas, this year’s fair is not only a herald of spring but also of the Song Festival, which will celebrate its centenary in Vilnius this summer.

The fair will be taking place on central Gediminas Avenue and the surrounding streets.

According to the organisers, this year’s fair will feature more than 800 craftsmen and artists and over 400 food traders, 13 outdoor cafés, as well as Ukrainian artisans.

During the fair, there will be traffic restrictions in the centre of Vilnius and the Old Town, as well as changes to public transport schedules and routes.
