Suspects in the murder of a prominent Lithuanian filmmaker Mantas Kvedaravičius in Ukraine have been identified, the Lithuanian Prosecutor General’s Office said on Thursday.

The pre-trial investigation in Lithuania has identified three servicemen of the 1st Separate Motorised Rifle Brigade of the 1st Army Corps of the unrecognised Donetsk People’s Republic as suspects in the crime, it said in a statement.

Lithuanian Prosecutor General Nida Grunskienė revealed the identities of the suspects on Thursday during a coordination meeting of the Joint Investigation Team in Kyiv.

“A request for legal assistance has now been submitted to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine to establish the whereabouts of these suspects, to serve them with court orders on recognising them as suspects, to carry out their interrogation and any other necessary procedural steps,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a press release.

Kvedaravičius was killed in Mariupol in April 2022 after he entered the city, besieged by Russian forces, together with his partner Hanna Bilobrova. The footage he filmed while in Mariupol was later smuggled out of the city and used to produce a documentary Mariupolis 2.
