Lithuania’s Central Project Management Agency (CPMA) is buying four light trucks for demining work for Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
According to the Central Public Procurement Portal, the trucks will be purchased for 1.32 million euros, excluding VAT, from Validus Special Auto, a Ukrainian company that won the tender, under a contract signed on December 6.
Eglė Uleckienė, head of the CPMA’s Lithuanian and Multilateral Program Unit, told BNS that the trucks were being purchased in the framework of an EU-funded project to support mine clearance in Ukraine.
“The agency is carrying out this procurement under a direct mandate from the European Commission, representing the European Union, and is reporting directly to the European Commission,” she said, adding that the light trucks are only part of the equipment to be purchased as part of this project. The EU has allocated a total of 20 million euros to the project.
“The project aims to provide Ukraine with urgent assistance in the area of mine clearance and ensure sustainable and long-term solutions in this area,” Uleckienė said.
Lithuania is also part of the Demining Coalition for Ukraine, established with 20 other countries earlier in February.
