The Lithuanian Culture Ministry announced on Monday the six winners of this year’s National Prize for Culture and Arts.
The laureates are Violeta Palčinskaitė, a poet, translator, and playwright who turned 80 this year, photographer Violeta Bubelytė, exhibition curator Giedrė Jankevičiūtė, actor Rasa Samuolytė, interdisciplinary artist Eglė Rakauskaitė, and composer Mindaugas Urbaitis
A total of 47 artists were nominated for the prize by members of the public.
The Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize recognises the most significant works of culture and art created by Lithuanian and expatriate artists over the last seven years, as well as their lifetime achievements.
This year’s winners will receive over 39,000 euros each.
The award ceremony will take place on February 16, Lithuania’s State Restoration Day.
