Police have received multiple reports on Tuesday about alleged explosives planted in schools and various institutions.
Many of the threats came in emails in English, the Police Department said. The threats included blowing up buildings and releasing poisonous gas.
“A total of 28 emails had been received by 09:00, most of them by schools and gymnasiums,” the Police Department said.
Schools and other institutions that receive threatening letters are advised not to interrupt their activities and not to call emergency services before consulting responsible officials. Evacuations are also not advised, unless a suspicious object is found on the premises. In that case, one should immediately call 112.
The police also ask that a single person be tasked with reporting the threat to the police, so that emergency services are not flooded by multiple reports from one place.
At the end of October, many schools and other institutions across the country were receiving bomb threats several days in a row. None of the threats proved to be real.
On Monday, Vilnius and Kaunas airports and Kaunas hydroelectric power station received false bomb threats.
