Rūta Meilutytė broke the world record in the women’s 50 metres breaststroke to win the gold medal at World Aquatics Championships in Japan on Sunday.
The Lithuanian swimmer set the new world record at 29.16 seconds.
“I felt it was possible,” said Meilutytė after the swim about breaking the world record.
On Tuesday, the 26-year-old won gold in the 100-metre breaststroke in a time of 1 minute and 4.62 seconds.
