Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda retained his position at the top of the latest presidential opinion poll published by the Delfi news website on Monday.

Some 20.4 percent of respondents polled by Spinter Tyrimai in March said they would vote for the incumbent head of state if the presidential election were held next weekend, up from 20.1 percent in February.

His closest contestants would be Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė and a lawyer Ignas Vėgėlė.

Some 10.5 percent of those polled said they would vote for Šimonytė, up from 10.1 percent a month ago. Vėgėlė saw his support edge down from 8 percent to 7.7 percent.

Further down the list was MEP Vilija Blinkevičiūtė, leader of the opposition Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, with 6.2 percent (5.6 percent in February), followed by Saulius Skvernelis, former prime minister and leader of the Democratic Union “For Lithuania”, with 4.2 percent (6 percent in January), and Andrius Tapinas, a journalist and public figure, with 4.2 percent (4.4 percent).

All other potential presidential hopefuls on the list received less than four percent support in the latest poll.

Some 12.9 percent of respondents said they would vote for a candidate not included in the list, 8 percent said they would not vote, and 13.8 percent were undecided.

Spinter Tyrimai polled 1,016 people aged between 18 and 75 on March 17-27. The results of the poll have an error margin of 3.1 percent.
