Lithuanian Post suspends parcel service to Russia

BNS 2023.03.17 12:04

Lietuvos Paštas (Lithuanian Post) has temporarily suspended parcel service to Russia, citing international sanctions.

Until now, the Lithuanian Post sent postal items addressed to Russia through Latvijas Pasts (Latvian Post).

However, the Latvian Post said “it will no longer accept postal items containing items if additional data describing the category of items is not provided", the Lithuanian state-owned company said in a press release.

"Currently, Lithuanian Post does not have a decision on how to transfer the required data, therefore it cannot fulfil this requirement," it said. "Latvian Post did not set a transition period for making the necessary changes, which is why Lithuanian Post could not prepare for them in advance."

The Lithuanian company said it is looking for solutions on how to send items to Russia.

Written correspondence – letters and postcards – continue to be sent to Russia.

In March 2022, the Lithuanian Post stopped sending commercial parcels to Russia and processing money transfers to and from Russia and Belarus.
