US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Washington was ready to defend the Baltic states, Reuters reported on Thursday.
"We are committed to Article 5, you can bet on that,” said Austin, referring to the collective defence agreement.
He was speaking in Estonia where he also said the United States would maintain a “persistent, rotational” military presence in the region.
The Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania worry Russia’s aggression in the region could expand.
Tallinn is now “working to prevent” it from coming under attack if Russia was not stopped in Ukraine, Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur was quoted by Reuters as saying.
