Lithuanian Culture Ministry on Monday announced the winners of the 2022 Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts.

This year, the prize was awarded to writer Kazys Saja, writer Rimvydas Stankevičius, opera singer Edgaras Montvidas, composer Žibuoklė Martinaitytė-Rosaschi, and film director Giedrė Žickytė.

Mantas Kvedaravičius, a Lithuanian documentary filmmaker who was killed in the war in Ukraine, was also awarded the prize posthumously.

According to Culture Minister Simonas Kairys, the national prize is awarded for long years of work.

“When we talk about the winners of the national prize, we talk about people who did not appear overnight because this is the result of their long-lasting work and creativity. This is the day when they are appreciated,” the minister told a press conference on Monday.

Awarded annually since 1989, the prize honours significant achievements in the field of culture and arts by Lithuanian creators. This year’s winners will receive over 36,000 euros each.

They will be presented with the diplomas and insignia on State Restoration Day on February 16, 2023.
