Klaipėda is the last of Lithuania’s main cities to inaugurate its Christmas tree. The port city on the Baltic coast decorated a real spruce that was lit up on Teatro Square on Saturday night.

The Christmas tree is complemented by a festive installation entitled Stars over the Sea. It celebrates 100 years since Klaipėda was joined to Lithuania in and recreates the positioning of celestial bodies in 1923.

“We are very proud and bold to say that Klaipėda is a centenary gift to Lithuania. Klaipėda Region and Klaipėda, when it was annexed to Lithuania, gave our country access to the sea and lit up the stars above it. This installation will speak about our centenary,” said Eglė Šulskė, head of the public institution Klaipėdos Šventės which organises Christmas events.
