In another sign of support for Ukraine, Vilnius has installed a road sign marking Minsk, the capital of Belarus, as occupied by the Kremlin due to the country’s involvement in Russia’s aggression.
Two signs were installed in the Liepkalnis area of Vilnius, indicating distances to the Ukrainian and Belarusian capitals. A comment says that Minsk is “occupied by Kremlin”.
“The distance to free Kyiv is 779 kilometres. The distance to Kremlin-occupied (temporarily) Minsk is 187 kilometres,” Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius posted on Facebook on Thursday morning. “A new road sign in Vilnius. Our Belarusian neighbours, wake up.”
On Wednesday, the Council of Vilnius has decided to name a road section leading to the Russian Embassy, hitherto nameless, Ukraine Heroes Street.
“As of today, the business card of every Russian Embassy employee will bear a tribute to the combativeness of Ukraine and everyone writing down the street address will have to think about the cruelty of the Russian regime against the peaceful Ukrainian people,” Šimašius said on Wednesday.
