People in Lithuania donate €2 million to Ukraine

BNS 2022.02.25 14:32

People in Lithuania have already donated almost 2 million euros to Blue/Yellow, a non-governmental organisation supporting the Ukrainian army, its head Jonas Ohman told BNS.

“Two million euros – I am gobsmacked. What can I say? I have no words. I am gobsmacked, happy, and determined. We are now starting to distribute resources differently than before,” he spoke to BNS while returning to Ukraine.

According to Ohman, the NGO keeps on receiving new donations.

“We've had companies that transferred 20,000 euros. A lot of people donated 100 euros. There was one person who brought 4,000 euros in cash. That’s impressive,” he said.

The money will be used to supply Ukrainian troops with fuel and transport.

“We’re receiving serious requests from Ukraine. For example, soldiers are asking for 10 tons of diesel per month to be able to fight. We are buying SUVs, medical equipment, medication kits. We are now looking for electronics with Ukrainian intelligence,” Ohman said.

“We will decide on transportation ways via Poland, bringing vehicles to the border where Ukrainians can pick them up […]. We need to fight, diplomacy is over,” he added.

Lithuania’s Red Cross is also collecting donations for war refugees from Ukraine. It has already collected 400,000 euros by Friday in cooperation with other NGOs in Lithuania.
