On Friday, Lithuania confirmed 114 new cases of Covid-19.
Forty-three new cases were confirmed in Kaunas County, 37 in Vilnius County, 22 in Šiauliai County, seven in Klaipėda County, three in Panevėžys County, and one each in Marijampolė and Utena counties.
Ninety-two people have caught the virus after coming in contact with those already infected, 72 cases are linked with existing clusters, while the circumstances surrounding 16 new cases remain unclear. Six cases in Lithuania had been contracted abroad – three in the United Kingdom and one each in Spain, Sweden, and Ukraine.
The biggest cluster remains Raseiniai District, where the infection rate has reached 329 cases per 100,000 people. Raseiniai District Mayor Andrius Bautronis and administration director Edmundas Jonyla have also become infected.
After attending the same event where Bautronis had been present, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, First Lady Diana Nausėdienė and other staff members of the presidential administration will undergo Covid-19 tests on Friday. The results are expected the same day.
The event on Sunday was also attended by Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and other officials and lawmakers.
In all, Lithuania currently has 1,778 active cases and 2,298 people have recovered. A total of 18,599 people are currently in isolation.
Eighty-nine people have died of Covid-19 so far, and another 19 coronavirus-infected patients have died of other causes.
The country has since June 1 registered 261 cases of coronavirus infection contracted abroad.
Some 6,028 samples have been tested for the virus over the past 24 hours.
