Lithuania's Presidential Palace is hosting on Friday the National Prayer Breakfast. This year's topic is 'The Prayer in the Nation's Life'.

The event has been organised by the Foreign Ministry in recent years.

Around 100 guests are expected at the closed-door event, including clergy, politicians, public figures, journalists, as well as people who have undergone major changes in life due to their belief.

The Prayer Breakfast tradition comes from 1942 when several US senators started organising informal meetings to spread Christian teachings, and according to some academics and historians, offer informal access to the country's top politicians.

The first National Prayer Breakfast with the American president in attendance took place in the US in 1953.
