LOT Polish Airlines chief Rafal Milczarski sees a bright future in the Eastern and Central European region, envisioning LOT to also grow in the Baltics.
In May 2019, LOT started direct flights from Vilnius to London City Airport. Speaking to LRT.lt, Milczarski said “it’s a crucial flight for Lithuania,” connecting “one of the world’s most important financial center – London”.
“I’m in charge of LOT since January 2016,” said Milczarski, “and we set ourselves a goal to become the main air carrier in Central Europe,” which Lithuania is part of – “Therefore, it’s logical for us to be active in the Lithuanian market.”
“I don’t like the Cold War-era description that the Iron Curtain divided Europe into east and west,” he added.
The flight between Vilnius and London City Airport is supported by the European Commission, and according to Milczarski, “it would be very difficult to develop this route without support”.
