Martynas Mažvydas National Library. Gedimino Avenue 51
The National Library stands just next to the parliament building and, in January 1991, it was at the centre of events.
It housed a makeshift hospital where teams of medics were ready to help if there were wounded.
The library also sheltered volunteers, people with guns were looking out the windows facing the Supreme Council. An outdoor kitchen was installed by the main entrance and the library welcomed everyone who needed to catch a breath from the cold and fatigue.
Several dozen employees of the library were later awarded the January 13 medals for their contribution to the effort.
