Relatives have identified two climbers, a Lithuanian and a Belarusian, who died on Mount Korumdu in Kyrgyzstan, local news outlet 24.kg reported Thursday.
The victims were identified as 37-year-old Lithuanian citizen Sergej Rubcov and 43-year-old Belarusian citizen Maxim Polianski, according to the Interior Ministry’s department for Osh region.
Their bodies are currently at a morgue in Osh and are expected to be repatriated to their home countries.
A third member of the group, 60-year-old Belarusian citizen Nikolai Sviridov, remains missing.
Polianski, Sviridov and Rubcov began climbing Mount Korumdu in the Trans-Alay Range on August 2.
The group was expected to descend to its base camp several days later, but rescuers were unable to establish contact with them at the scheduled time.
Kyrgyzstan’s Emergency Situations Ministry and volunteers subsequently launched a search operation.
Lithuania’s Embassy in Kazakhstan has been in contact with Rubcov’s relatives in Lithuania, while the embassy and Lithuania’s honorary consul in Kyrgyzstan have been working with Kyrgyz authorities, including rescue services.
