Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on Wednesday described US President Donald Trump’s renewed suggestion that Greenland should come under US control as “improvisation”.
“Let’s consider it a certain improvisation, but on this issue, it seems to me, the answers have already been provided earlier,” Nausėda told LRT after the NATO summit in Ankara.
Ahead of the summit, Trump renewed his call for the United States to take control of Greenland, the autonomous Danish territory. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reiterated that Greenland is not for sale.
Nausėda said NATO allies must respect one another’s sovereignty and commitments, stressing that the alliance is made up of independent states.
