An Indian national has been charged with the large-scale trafficking of cocaine after officers discovered more than seven kilograms of the drug hidden in his car, including inside a food delivery bag, prosecutors in Lithuania have announced.
The Kaunas Regional Prosecutor's Office said it had completed its pre-trial investigation and referred the case to court. The defendant faces charges of unlawful acquisition, possession, transportation and distribution of a very large quantity of narcotic and psychotropic substances.
According to investigators, the drugs were found during searches carried out in early October last year in Vilnius, in the Kaišiadorys district, and at the defendant's place of residence. Officers recovered a crystalline substance later confirmed to contain a very large quantity of cocaine.
The drugs were found in several locations within the defendant's vehicle: in a rucksack, in the passenger compartment, in a food delivery bag, and in the boot. Investigators believe the substances were being transported from Vilnius to the Kaišiadorys district, where part of the consignment was allegedly left for onward distribution.
The charge carries a prison sentence of between ten and fifteen years under Lithuanian law. The case has been referred to the Kaunas Regional Court.
