Lithuania to send 30 RBS missiles to Ukraine – defence minister in Kyiv

Lithuania is sending 30 RBS missiles to Ukraine to help bolster its air defences, said Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas Tuesday during a visit to Kyiv.

“To help protect critical infrastructure, we are delivering 30 RBS missiles to Ukraine. This is weaponry Ukraine urgently needs and it will help strengthen its air defence,” Kaunas said after a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Kaunas visited Ukraine as the country marked the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Meetings of the Coalition of the Willing and the Nordic-Baltic Eight, or NB8, were held in Kyiv alongside bilateral talks with Zelensky and Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

At the NB8 meeting, Kaunas called for stepping-up support to counter Russian attacks on civilian energy infrastructure during the winter months, Lithuania’s Defence Ministry said.

He said Lithuania had delivered 90 generators worth more than 2 million euros during the coldest January-February period of 2026 and was preparing additional shipments of diesel generators, transformers, electric motors and other equipment to help restore electricity supplies.

Lithuania will also contribute to the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List, or PURL, initiative supplying US-made weapons to Ukraine, the ministry said.

Kaunas added that a new shipment of liquefied natural gas from the United States, via the Klaipėda LNG terminal, would reach Ukraine soon.

Support for Ukraine and its bid to join the European Union will be among Lithuania’s priorities in 2027, when the country holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

During a separate meeting with Fedorov, the sides discussed expanding industrial cooperation and agreed to pursue closer collaboration on joint Lithuanian-Ukrainian weapons production projects in both countries.
